Offered is an 1864-1866 photographic Carte de Visite (CDV) of an identified Civil War soldier on leave (the record shows he mustered out in 1866, a year after the image was taken).
Walter Williams (1820-1881) was a Sergeant in Co. F, 30th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.
There were only two Walter Williams' who mustered in MA, the other had the middle initial "S."
The studio backmark is for John A. Heard of Tremont Row in Boston, MA.
The three-cent wartime internal revenue stamp tells us the image was taken between 1864-1866 and it is specifically ink marked "JAH 9/65."
There is some light foxing on the emulsion paper.
Shipped USPS First Class parcel with Tracking.
Combined postage if more than one image won.
